Quarter 4 - Unit 4
Office hours: Friday's 9 am - 11 am
Welcome back!/ Bonne rentrée !/ ¡ Buen regreso !
This final unit is going to primarily focus on the continuation of analyzing the themes of multicultural short stories. The class readings will come from Words Without Borders: The World Through the Eyes of Writers. Each week, we will engage with a particular story, taking into account the author, their homeland, their language, history, culture, etc. Similarly to our previous unit, we will utilize these context clues to better understand where these stories are coming from, how they shape and interpret their themes. Each short story will be accompanied by a reflection assignment. Reflection assignments will be assigned every Tuesday, and due no later than 5pm every Friday via GoogleDocs ([email protected]). For the week of March 30 - April 3rd, your first reflection assignment will be due no later than the following Tuesday, April 7th. The reflection assignment will serve as both reading retention and class participation, wherein each student will interact with the weekly reading. The reflection should not act as a summary of the reading, rather as your personal interpretation of and reaction to the reading. Each reflection should be no shorter than half a page. Should you not respond to any given reflection assignment, you will receive a zero for that week's participation portion, as well as a zero for the given assignment portion.
In addition, I will be providing office hours on a weekly basis: Friday's from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. While you will have access to my email address during regular school hours (9 am to 5 pm), these office hours will serve as direct one-on-one assistance towards both the reading and writing assignments.
Due to recent changes in events, I will be omitting the Unit 3 Open-note Test. This does not affect Quarter 3/Quarter 4 grades.
May 11th - 15th : Wrap-up reflection assignment
May 4th - 8th : "The Maturing of Homeland" and "The Oath" (200-205)
April 27th - May 1st : "The Uses of English" (175-183)
April 20th - 24th : "A Drowsy Haze" (163-172)
