MONDAY MAY 18TH-- FINISHED!! Nice work everyone. We are done for the term. If anyone has outstanding work to turn in, I can accept it up until 3pm TODAY. Enjoy your summer break and stay in touch. Joseph
Assignment for the week of May 11th: This is it, team. Your performance pieces are due to me by the end of the week. If you are having trouble, need some help thinking through some things, etc. please reach out to me as soon as possible so we don't run out of time.
As a reminder, final projects should be a short video clip of you performing. As we discussed, you can choose to act something out (by yourself in one role, or multiple; with others in your social-distancing circle; etc); you can perform a song and/or dance. I am looking for something in the two to three minutes range.
Good luck and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
Assignment for the week of May 4th: (assignments due in my inbox from Google Docs no later than Friday, May 8th at 5pm.) This week we need to take some time to consider our final project that we will be due in two weeks. So be sure to take some time this week to build a plan. Do you have the thing you are performing? Is it complete? What will you need to film it? Do you need any props, any set design, any costume? How much should you rehearse? The more of these questions you know the answer to this week, the easier next week’s work will be.
For this week, as we consider how people are interacting and being creative during the stay at home orders, take a look at this, and make sure you watch this.
We will do a conference call tomorrow, TUESDAY at 2pm. Conference info at the end.
DUE FRIDAY: Simple assignment for the week, tell me how progress is coming on your final project and any obstacles you are facing.
Assignment for the week of April 27th: (assignments due in my inbox from Google Docs no later than Friday, May 1st at 5pm.) Other schools are doing things like this. As an inspiration for your final projects, why don’t you take a look at what Chino Valley High School in California did last week. And here’s what we did!
Even bigger, a university in Michigan did a virtual performance of Macbeth. I don’t expect you to watch the whole hour and a half performance, but check out an excerpt.
DUE BY FRIDAY AT 5PM: For this week, tell me what you think of these videos and ideas. How are they making lemonade with lemons? What is the shortcomings of this medium? Finally, do you have any ideas about collaborating that we can incorporate into class for the next few weeks? You all could try to do something in pairs or small groups, or we could try another class-wide project. Thoughts?
Assignment for the week of April 20th: (assignments due in my inbox from Google Docs no later than Friday, April 24th at 5pm.) This week's assignment requires you to send me a short video for a group project. Watch this video for instructions.
Assignment for the week of April 13th: (assignments due in my inbox from Google Docs no later than Friday, April 17th at 5pm.) Here is a movement video. I think this is a fun online collaboration during a time of social distancing and isolation. You should watch; it's also a chance to dance and get in some exercise; also, they are putting together what they hope will be the largest flash mob ever (so if you wanted, you could take part). We will be doing some interactive work next week. Also, you should be thinking about what you might do for your final project. Due by Friday: 1. Let me know what you think about this video in a few sentences reflection. 2. Tell me what you are thinking for your final project. If you need a reminder, look at the first post below.

This is an interview with Anna Deavere Smith, a performer who has been on television, but who has recently performed in a one-woman-show called "Notes From the Field." Consider her reflections on the art of performing. I want you to react to the things she says, and in a written reflection, let me know your thought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eL9oME21v0 Answers should be in paragraph form, and need to be thorough. I want to hear your reaction to several of the things the artist shares in this interview.
